There are now companies available up and down the country that will happily relieve you of the burden of self-build by supplying a complete design and build package. The service comes at a considerable cost and there is usually some compromise that has to be made regarding construction, but this can be an answer for those who have time and/or skill-related obstacles that would otherwise prevent the project from proceeding. Some offer to take your ideas and convert them into plans, then arrange and manage the entire construction on your behalf (known as a 'turnkey' project). Others have a range of 'off-the-shelf' timber-frame homes that they can deliver on a low-loader to the plot for you to assemble, being much like a flat-pack item of furniture, though rather larger and more complex than your average wardrobe!
